Tourism sector make case for marina in Goa

PANAJI
With yacht tourism in Goa on a high this season, a full-fledged marina is not only the need of the hour, but will turn out to be a good money-spinner for Goa’s struggling economy, say tourism stakeholders, disappointed with the Goa State Pollution Board’s decision to shoot down the proposed marina at Sancoale, on the southern bank of the Zuari.Says P Mara Pandiyan, chairman of the Mormogao Port Trust, “We had signed MoUs with two private companies to develop two separate marinas at a cost of around 500 crore along the Zuari waterfront; even the Environment Impact Assessment was completed, leaving only the clearance from the pollution control board. Several luxury yachts visit MPT every year, and the state’s impetus should be on developing marinas, as they will attract high-spending tourists to the state,” he says.Full report here Times of India
