Tourism earns 80% more foreign exchange for India

Tourism’s contribution to India’s Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs) has been increasing steadily. Between 2008 and 2012, the FEEs have risen by over 80% from Rs 51,244 crore ($10 billion approx) to Rs 94487 crore ($15.5 billion approx). In 2012, the FEE increased at a 21.8% rate over last year.

As Indian travel and hospitality industry grows in India, the contribution is only set to increase even further.

As per the UNWTO World Tourism Barometer, June 2013, India’s rank in the World Tourism Receipts during 2012 was 16th. The rank of India was 7th among the Asia & Pacific Region in terms of tourism receipts during 2012.
