BODINAICKANUR

For the first time, revenue and tourism officials with support of forest officials have launched trekking expedition to Top Station on Western Ghats from Kurangani not only to promote and streamline trekking but also to put Theni district on the adventure tourism map of the State.

Launching the first trekking expedition at Kurangani near here on Monday, Collector K.S. Palanisamy said that tourists from different parts of the country trekked on Western Ghats on their own after obtaining permission from forest officials. With the launch of this facility, trekking had been streamlined. The main aim of the exercise was to promote adventure tourism among youth in the district and attract tourists from other parts of the country.

It will also encourage youth to get adventurous and exploratory travel experiences and enjoy the remoteness and silence of the hills. The community youth will be roped in to assist tourists. Special training will be imparted to them, he added. “It will be exciting for tourists as they can see the beauty of nature and biodiversity of the ghats.”
