The story of a disappearing Sanjay Lake

DELHI
“After a tiring day at work, the only thing that refreshes me is a walk to Sanjay Lake area. Nature is the best way to rejuvenate yourself ,” said Ram Mishra, a resident of Mayur Vihar. He feels the presence of a lake near the residential area is a boon and the ongoing concretisation work at the lake’s surrounding should be stopped.

Sanjay Lake is an artificial lake made by the Delhi Development Authority in 1970. It is surrounded by Kalyanpuri and Trilokpuri on one side and Mayur Vihar Phase II on the other. Spread over an area of 69 hectares, the park boasts of a children’s club, a boating house, a suspension bridge, a nursery, etc.

When environmental activist Vinod Kumar Jain noticed the deteriorating condition of the lake area, he filed a PIL in the court for revival of water bodies.
