For anyone travelling by road from Bhubaneswar to Berhampur, Tampara Lake on the outskirts of Chatrapur along the national highway is a tempting locale, especially to a lover of water sports. But cyclone Phailin has devastated the hot spot.
While around 30 newly-constructed beauty pillars of the tourism department were uprooted, 10 boats and a boatshed were badly damaged. It will be a long time before the lake could restore its thrilling water scooter ride and paddle boat.
Hundreds of casurina and cashewnut trees on its bank were uprooted. “We found the wreckage of the boats shattered far away. Suddenly, the water body has lost its scenic beauty,” said Kalu Charan Tripathy, caretaker of the lake.
