The Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) concluded annual meetings and elections for 2015-17 for its 3 regions and 12 chapters on July 31, 2015. The office-bearers for 12 chapters were elected unopposed. However, the elected managing committee members would start functioning for the two-year term only after the TAAI AGM and National Managing Committee election.
Harmandeep Singh Anand, Secretary General, TAAI, said, “The elections were held successfully. Among the 4 regions and 16 chapters, the elections were conducted for Southern Region, and chapters, namely South Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Kerala, and Chandigarh. In Chandigarh, the election was conducted only for the post of Chairman. All other managing committee members for other regions and chapters were elected unanimously.”
The election process began on July 14 with the Southern Region of TAAI and ended with Northern Region, and Nagpur, and Pune chapters. Commenting on the AGM and national election of TAAI, Anand said, “Hopefully, we should be conducting the AGM by end of September. The date will be announced by the end of this month. It will be mostly held in Mumbai because TAAI office is registered in the city.”
Anand added, “There used to be a misconception that TAAI members were only ticketing agents. Therefore, tourism boards were skeptical about working with us, but that is changing now.”
