Briefing mediapersons, Congress spokesperson Sudip Tamankar said travels by chief ministerManohar Parrikar and his ministers since the government was sworn in on March 9, 2012, till September 30, 2013, amounted to over 31 lakh. From this, the chief minister’s travels amounted to over 7 lakh, while health minister Laxmikant Parsekar and PWD minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar spent over 4 lakh each on travel.
Tamankar said that at a time when the state exchequer is under strain, the government would do well to curb this wasteful expenditure on travel. He said the travels were not for any productive purpose and that is why the government should behave responsibly and stop the wasteful expenditure.
