CHENNAI
The second edition of the Coast Guard Rolling Cup Sailing Regatta, in collaboration with the 102-year-old Royal Madras Yacht Club (RMYC), will take place from January 15-17 off the Chennai Port.
Sailing, a pollution-free sport that utilises wind energy, offers huge potential for the promotion of eco-friendly sport and tourism. “This event is being held to promote sailing amongst the various arms of the defence services in India as well as the general public. Sailing is a character-building exercise, as one has to contend with the wind, weather, and ocean currents. We want to encourage this sport among the youth to promote an eco-friendly initiative,” said Commodore K Chidambaram, the president of RMYC.
