French Reunion Island is trying to forge relationships with the state in the fields of industry, trade and tourism. The Indian Ocean island is planning to market itself as a potential tourism destination for Indians.
The 2,500sqkm volcanic island has a large Tamil diaspora, members of which visit the state to trace their genealogy, make pilgrimages and visit family. About 30% of the island’s population is of Indian origin.
President of the regional council of Reunion Island Didier Robert met chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday and discussed areas of cooperation.
