Environmentalists have once again raised concern over a 15 feet high fiber statue of a dinosaur, standing tall on Chadheihaga Island in the Chilika Lake. The statue was installed by the Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC), which had planned to set up a Jurassic park there, but altered it following protests from green activists, sources said.
“We have written several letters to the OTDC for removal of the structure. But for strange reasons, it is yet to done,” said environmentalist Biswajeet Mohanty.
The island comes under the Coastal Regulation Zone 1, where no alteration or construction that may disturb or completely destroy the complex ecology of the place is allowed. “Ganjam district collector should have lodged a police complaint for violation of CRZ guidelines against the OTDC officials,” Mohanty added.
