DELHI: Ras Al Khaimah was named the “Best Upcoming Tourism Destination” for 2016 at the North India Travel Awards. Mohamed Khater, Senior Tourism Development Manager, Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) received the award at a gala ceremony in Gurgaon on October 21, 2016.
India Travel Awards are for different segments of the industry including travel agents, tour operators, hotels, airlines, and state & international tourism boards. The winners of the awards were done through online voting and judged by a panel of jury consisting of the travel industry’s luminaries.
“We are focused on promoting Ras Al Khaimah as a preferred choice of tourist destination, and an award such as this, further reinforces our motivation to work harder to increase India arrivals to the emirate,” said Haitham Matter, CEO, RAKTDA.
The northern UAE emirate saw a 22% rise in Indian hotel guests between January and September this year as compared to the same nine-month period in 2015. During September, visitors from India increased by 61% compared to the same month in 2015. India ranked as the Emirate’s fourth largest international source market.
