Rajasthan missing in tourism calendar

On the eve of the review of tourism department by chief minister Vasundhara Raje, the plight of tourism in the state can be gauged by a table top ‘Incredible India Promotional Calendar 2014,” released by the Union tourism ministry.

The calendar containing 24 photographs on double-sided paper showcasing the diversity of destinations offered by the country has given Rajasthan a slip. The state thrives on tourism and is part of the famous Golden Triangle. It is also the first state in the country to have the first UNESCO serial site ‘The Hill forts of Rajasthan.’

And if the six hill forts are counted separately as they are practically spread through Rajasthan, then too the total number of World Heritage sites in the state is the highest in the country. Add to that, Rajasthan has often bagged the top spot in traveller’s surveys on Trip Advisor as the undisputed heritage state with 12 out of the 25 best heritage hotels in the country at the top five places.
