Power companies to let out guest houses

KOLKATA
The day may not be far when you won’t require a recommendation for accommodation in a guest house of West BengalState Electricity Development Corporation Ltd (WBSEDCL) or Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) at some exotic location.

To make better use of existing facilities, the power utilities are planning to let out guest houses to tourists. As part of preparations, the State Productivity Council – West Bengal (SPCWB) has been roped in to train housekeeping staff at the guest houses. “We have already conducted training at guest houses in Behrampore, Burdwan, Digha, Siuri, Salt Lake, Siliguri – Teesta and Jaldhaka – and Cooch Behar. We were engaged by the SPCWB to impart training to assist the staff in becoming tourist friendly,” said PR professional Samir Goswami.

The training comprises two parts. Small teams of trainers visit the guest houses and organize sessions for the employees where they are practically brainwashed on the need for a change in attitude. “They are used to interacting primarily with senior officials of the organization and a few guests who come recommended. However, they aren’t used to handling guests who pay money and expect good service in return. We have been training them on how to receive guests, etiquette and the importance of courteous behaviour,” Goswami said.
