Odissi From All Over the World

The spiritual aesthetics of Odissi have won the classical dance form a varied audience worldwide. Many young dancers from far off places land in Odisha to learn this dance form. And some of these Odissi artistes from different parts of the globe and the state assembled in the city last week to celebrate the spirit of the dance form. Rich repertoires of solo and group performances were seen at the eighth edition of International Odissi Festival at the Rabindra Mandap here.

The inaugural programme on December 26 began with a solo recital by Bagmishree Das from Rourkela. USA-based dancers Alyssa Sahu and Arundhati Chakraborty also presented solo dance items. Every day, the festival had two sessions.

Artistes like Sukruti Kumar from New Delhi, Bhubaneswar’s Shilpa Sonali Mohanty, Sasmita Pal from Singapore, Nehahari Das from the US, Swati Singh and Anisha Anukampa from Bhubaneswar, Chandrika Mohapatra from Bangalore and dancers of Lokanath Sangeeta Kala Niketan from Bhubaneswar showcased different aspects of Odissi on the second day.
