Now, colour code for Ganga ghats

VARANASI

The decision to colour all the 84-odd scenic ghats along the Ganga in stone colour has been taken under the tourism department’s Rs 21 crores worth project, ‘Clean India Campaign’, but neither the officials of tourism department nor of Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) are in a position to tell how the already existing crude graffiti defacing the ghats will be removed.

Hundreds of advertisements and graffiti have spoiled the beauty of the majestic river fronts of the city. In 2012, VMC had identified as many as 200 such graffiti and advertisements painted on the stone walls of the ghats including the advertisements of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), yoga and meditation centres, music classes, Banarasi Saree shops, lounges, motels, roof top cafes.
