played a vital role in moulding the cultural topography of the state

The life and culture on the banks of Bharathapuzha, the lifeline of three districts in central Kerala, will soon figure on the world tourism map.

The Department of Tourism is designing a unique tour package focusing on the river system to help discover its cultural heritage.

The river, which flows through Palakkad, Malappuram and Thrissur, is notable for the presence of places like the Kerala Kalamandalam in Cheruthuruthy, Thirunavaya in Malappuram and Killikurissi Mangalam in Lakkidi on its sides.

“The package includes visits to all the culturally important locations adjacent to the river basin and the major festivals organized on its banks,’’ said a senior official of  the department. It envisages circumnavigating the 209-km -long river from its origin to the sea.
