Suman Billa, joint secretary, Tourism, Government of India, and chairman of the India Convention Promotion Bureau (ICPB’s) said that the new National Tourism Policy and the ‘Make in India’ campaign will surely give India’s meetings, incentives, conventions and events (MICE) travel potential a push at the organisation’s luncheon meeting.
“India currently holds the 35th global MICE ranking and ninth position in the Asia Pacific region, with 116 global business events hosted in 2014. India’s share in global tourism ranking also remains 0.68%. ICPB needs to play a more vital and focused role in growing and promoting India as a premier MICE destination,” he said. He added that about 190,000 hotel rooms are set to open in India over the next three to four years and the MICE travel segment would benefit from the same.
With a focus on marketing, networking and skill development, ICPB’s eighth Conventions India has registered 64 buyers and aims to hit 150.
