NE monsoon gives green coastal Andhra

VISAKHAPATNAM
The recent torrential rain may have wreaked havoc across the north coastal Andhra, but the excess rainfall seems to have come as a blessing in disguise for tourists wanting to visit the region during Kartika Masam, that began on Monday (November 4).

The reason: The heavy rain that lashed Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts, falling under the Visakhapatnam division of Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC), have not only replenished the water bodies in various tourist spots but have also given these areas a green makeover.

Last year, only 70-80% of the nearly 300 rooms in various APTDC guest houses and resorts in the division were occupied, but this year the tourism officials expect nearly 95% occupancy due to the prevailing weather conditions and the fact that around 35 key tourist and picnic spots have been rejuvenated in the division.
