With destination weddings becoming big in the Indian marriage market, fashion designer Narendra Kumar has designed a collection to woo brides and grooms who plan to get married in exotic locations.
The collection was titled The Monaco Diaries and presented in collaboration with Monaco Tourism at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2015, reports India Today.
Creating a versatile wardrobe for the 21st century bride and groom, Kumar offered a complete wedding wear solution for all festivities — mehndi, sangeet, cocktail ceremony, marriage and finally the reception — there was a wide choice for men and women.
Aimed at the global bridal couple whose wedding destinations could be anywhere around the world, the designer matched the mood of the fashionable locales of Monaco. The glamour of style icons like Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly along with retro Hollywood touches, appeared in the chic line.
For womenswear, rich fabrics formed the base of the trousseau. Velvet, silk, sheer organza, taffeta and light weight georgette with lots of lace were turned into glamorous creations. The colours moved from prominent corals to pastels like lavender, mint, and darker hues like purple, midnight blue and burgundy, which can look amazing for a bridal beach soiree.
Keeping the silhouettes for womenswear limited to balloon or bubble skirt with flaps and ornate glittering bodices for dresses, Kumar also favoured the peplum jackets or blouses teamed with pants or skirts. Cut-work played a major role on the blouses, trouser hems, gowns and dresses. Giving ethnic wear a western influence were the long feminine kurtas with ruffles on the ramp.
Menswear reflected the feel of Monaco’s mood as Kumar visualised cool comfortable suits, jacquard jackets and bandhgalas in shades of beige, light orange, mint and deeper dark masculine tones. Constructed close to the body, the jackets sported two-button closures teamed with skinny ankle length trousers.
