“Mumbai will usher a new wave of tourism”

DELHI: Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDCL) is transforming rapidly with Tourism 360 degree as its focus, said Aashutosh Rathod, Director of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra and Joint Managing Director of MTDCL.

In order to transform the economy in an effective manner, Mumbai Tourism Development Corporation is ushering outstanding strategies such as the Mumbai Shopping Festival: January Mela, reports The Economic Times. This will be a regular annual feature.

The concept is the brainchild of Minister of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra, who believes in reestablishing the essence of ‘mela’ with many avenues of fun and leisure during every Indian festival. MTDC is earnestly promoting this concept.

Mumbai Shopping Festival along with the Talent Street initiative with the initial back-up from the PM’s office was a big push, said Rathod.

Private players’ participation has been encouraging and every Mumbaiite too is playing an active role of participation, he said. On the lines of Dubai Shopping Festival whilst also making it larger and greater in its reach, Mumbai Shopping Festival will be marked on tourists’ calender each year. Options to go shopping in the nights, witness varied talents (under Talent Street concept), enjoy diverse cuisine and go sight-seeing will be an added attraction for domestic and international tourists.

Before Diwali of 2019, we are glad to announce that in Igatpuri, a 100-acre ‘Wellness Hub’ will become functional, he said. This will be a first-of-its-kind in India. With healthcare practitioners extending latest wellness practices from every continent, recuperation here will be a dream come true. India is already making news in the Medical Tourism segment. MTDC will soon usher Wellness Tourism option with great reach and access and combine these forces.
