Mumbai violence: Airlines waive flight change charges

MUMBAI: As protests over violence during 200th anniversary of Bhima Koregaon battle in Pune district of Maharashtra spread to different parts of Maharashtra on January 2, airlines announced that they would waive change and cancellation charges including fare difference if any, on all confirmed tickets of those affected by demonstrations on Tuesday, reports DNA.

“Due to unrest in Mumbai, we are waiving off change and cancellation charges, including fare difference if any, on all confirmed tickets for flights to and from Mumbai for travel dated 2nd January, 2018,” Jet airways said in a tweet.

Similarly, sources said that national carrier Air India has also offered a similar breather for those affected who could not reach airport on time or cancelled their plans anticipating trouble along the way to airport. Other airlines are expected to announce the same soon.

On Monday, a youth died as a group, opposed to the celebrations due to the “British victory” in the Bhima Koregaon battle, clashed with Dalits rallying their way to the battle memorial.
