From Friday midnight, commuters travelling by non-AC state transport buses will have to pay more money with the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) deciding to hike fares by 2.60% across Maharashtra. AC bus commuters have been spared, though.
The State Transport Authority has announced a marginal fare hike—50 paise to Re 1, depending on the distance travelled. “AC bus fares will not be increased as the MSRTC had recently hiked the fares of Shivneri Volvos by 12%,” said an STA official. The Dadar-Pune AC bus fare was recently increased to Rs 390.
Principal secretary (state transport) Shailesh Sharma said that the hikes will come into effect from November 8 midnight. “The marginal fare hike will be felt only by those travelling 15 km and above,” said an official.
