It was the first day of monsoon and one of the worst affected was the IGI airport. Four hours of heavy rain resulted in massive waterlogging both inside and outside the domestic terminal at T3 and inside the IGI airport Metro station, leading not just to passenger inconvenience but also in some delayed flights on Sunday.
Between 2pm and 5pm, four baggage belts had to be closed since there was foot-deep water near these. All domestic passengers had to be diverted to belts 5, 6 and 7 which are common between the domestic and international sides. “It was absolutely shocking to get off the aircraft and find so much waterlogging inside the terminal. I had to take off my shoes and wade through water which was up to two feet to get out of the terminal. My bags were completely wet and the situation outside was no better. It is embarrassing how our world class facilities cannot take even a single day’s rain,” said Pradeep Awasthi, a passenger who arrived from Chennai.
