MBMC to the rescue of crumbling Ghodbunder fort

A ray of hope has emerged for the crumbling walls of the historic Ghodbunder Fort in Mira Road, which is now a virtual picture of utter neglect and apathy of authorities. Shiv Sena legislator, Pratap Sarnaik, has sought the intervention of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation for restoring the 17th century heritage fort and turn it into a tourist destination.

A delegation of civic officials, led by civic chief, Suresh Kakani and joined by Sarnaik, visited the fort on Tuesday. Originally named as Cacabe de Tanna, the Ghodbunder Fort was built in 1730 by the Portuguese who had settled in this region in 1530.
