Manapad set to host the second edition of Sail & Surf Festival

MANAPAD

The quaint coastal hamlet of Manapad is set to host the annual national level adventure water sports event for the second time.

‘Manapad Classic’, the mega event will be a three-day affair where hundreds of water sports enthusiasts from across the country are expected to participate and showcase their sailing and surfing talents, reports The Hindu.

Manapad Classic is dubbed as the only festival featuring five water sports – sailing, surfing, kite boarding, kayaking and stand up saddle conducted at a competitive level simultaneously.

“Last year was a grand success with over 120 people taking part in the event and this time, we have widened our horizons by introducing wind surfing as the sixth sport,” says Arun Miranda, the Director of ‘Manapad Surf Resort’, the organiser of the festival.

“The beach is blessed with favourable wind and wave conditions for all these sports. There are specific locations along the coast like Covelong Point, Mahabalipuram, Thoothukudi and Manapad that have unique natural formations that make them ideal for adventure water sports.

The idea is to promote adventure water sports amongst the younger generation, to promote tourism in Tamil Nadu and to help in the social empowerment of marginalised youth living in the coastal hamlets.”
