MANALI
Nearly 30,000 tourists staying in Manali were confined to their hotels for the whole day on Tuesday as taxi, auto-rickshaw and luxury coach owners remained off the road. Operators, protesting against unplanned barriers put up by the administration on Manali-Rohtang highway, have planned complete ‘chakka jam’ on Wednesday as well.
Not only cabbies alone, but Manali Beopar Mandal has also decided to keep the market shut for few hours on Wednesday. All non-governmental organizations, mahila mandals and residents of nine villages in upper Manali are also supporting the strike. Shops that rent out skis and snow dresses will remain closed for the whole day. Local BJP MLA Govind Singh Thakur is also in support of the agitators.
