Already hit by airfare hike, the tourists visiting Kashmir are now feeling the pinch of exorbitant room charges in hotels and houseboats.

Tourists complained that accommodation rates charged by hoteliers and houseboat owners were even higher than some star graded hotels in metropolitan cities.

With the increase in tourist arrivals, the valley is reeling under accommodation crisis. Tourists allege that hoteliers and houseboat owners are exploiting the visitors on the pretext of room shortage.

Tourists alleged that hoteliers are charging more than what the hotels in other states and even outside the country charge. “Rates in metropolitan and star graded hotels of India are less than the hotels and houseboats here,” said Muhammad Anees, a tourist from Delhi.
