Make DND flyway toll free, decrees Allahabad HC

DELHI: The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday ordered the Delhi-Noida-Direct (DND) flyway to be toll free with immediate effect.

The High Court pronounced its order on a PIL filed by the Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA), reports The Economic Times.

The DND flyway connects Delhi on the west bank of the Yamuna with Noida and East Delhi.

The DND flyway witnessed several protests and demonstrations seeking scrapping of the Rs 28 toll following allegations that the operator of the 9.2-km-long stretch (including the Mayur Vihar link) has already made significant profits.

“This is the best Diwali gift for the residents of Noida and Gautam Budh Nagar at large. Our main purpose is achieved – that of putting an end to the long due DND toll,” a jubilant N P Singh, president Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA) told The Times of India.

Advocate Ranjit Saxena, who had pleaded the case for FONRWA, maintained that the toll on DND will be discontinued with immediate effect following the order.

“This is a historic judgement which is in favour of the public who had suffered for long,” said Saxena. Saxena further adds that the judgement from the bench of Justice Arun Tandon and Justice Sunita Agarwal clearly said that “while they are not disturbing the Concessionaire Agreement signed between Noida Authority and the Noda Toll Bridge Company Limited (NTBCL) over DND, why should the public of Noida suffer?.

The court further stated that NTBCL has recovered more than the cost of the DND flyway and is no way justified to charge toll on it, hence it be removed with immediate effect,” said Saxena.
