KOLHAPUR
The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), which has been considering closure of its city office to reduce management cost, announced on Tuesday that it will not close the office.
The corporation had a regional office in Kolhapur from 1989 to 2006-07. Later, the office was shifted to Pune and an information and booking centre was opened here with four employees. The centre generates around Rs 10 lakh revenue each month.
In a press release on Tuesday, the MTDC has stated that the management had decided to close the office considering the high maintenance charges. “However, taking note of Kolhapur’s historical importance and adjoining tourism centres, the MTDC is revoking its decision. The centre will be active for the tourists of Sangli and Kolhapur districts as usual.”
