Lack of tourism cell puts GVMC in a bind

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) authorities profess that they are keen on heritage conservation and have even included nine heritage structures in the heritage tourism development programme of the city development plan.

However, these grand plans have come up against an obstacle as GVMC does not even have a tourism cell, not to speak of a heritage conservation team. GVMC does not even have anyone with expertise in heritage tourism and heritage conservation. To take up any tourism project, GVMC has to collaborate with the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (Vuda), which has a tourism wing of its own.
