Kotappakonda to be developed into a tourist spot

KOTAPPAKPNDA: Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao has said the hill shrine of Kotappakonda near Narsaraopet would be further developed into a tourist spot with facilities like rope way, eco tourism and other amenities expected to be put in place by Maha Shivarathri in next March, reports The Hindu.

Reviewing the developmental work on the hill top shrine, Dr. Rao said a new children’s park and a butterfly park would be added. The shrine teems with devotees throughout the year but the rush peaks at Maha Sivarathri.

Director, Tourism, Himanshu Shukla, was also present.

Recalling his efforts to develop the shrine, Mr. Rao said devotees visiting the Sri Trikoteswara Swamy Temple would be provided all the amenities.

Developed as part of a tourism promotional activity during the Telugu Desam’s regime, the park was a brain child of Mr. Rao when he was a Minister. The park is situated at an altitude of 300 metres above mean sea level and getting the material required for building the meshes, water for the birds and animals and planting greenery was a Herculean task accomplished by the Forest Department.

The park now boasts of an enclosure with 22 peacocks, 27 spotted deer and rabbits.
