Kolhapur plans to boost tourism

The Kolhapur regional planning committee has proposed tourism development in the western parts of the district to increase employment opportunities and utilize the existing natural resources effectively.

The committee at its seventh meeting held on Friday discussed details of the proposals for Panhala, Shahuwadi, Ajara, Chandgad, Gaganbavda and Radhanagari taluka.

The proposal involves development of these areas as hill stations, tourism destinations and promoting agro-tourism.

While the population density in the Karvir taluka, where the Kolhapur city is located, is 509 per square kilometre, the same is less than 150 in these talukas situated on the Western Ghats.
