Kinnaur to host ‘people’s conclave’

SHIMLA
Environmentalists and tribals are holding a convention in the rain-ravaged Kinnaur district on July 17 to express their resentment against developmental projects being implemented in the region, including hydro-power projects. They are demanding that no more hydro-power projects should be allowed without mainstreaming disaster risk management and climate change. The green activists are claiming that affected people in Kinnaur are also being poorly compensated.

Their other demands include proper regulation of road construction as per hill construction norms, implementation of Forest Right Act and distribution of relief for loss of life and livelihoods as per norms followed in Uttarakhand.
