SRINAGAR
Kashmir Society, a civil society group, today protested steep hike in airfares on Srinagar sector.
At a daylong conference here today, presided over by Khwaja Farooq Renzushah, chairman, Kashmir Society, the speakers pointed out that with the increase in tourist rush to Kashmir, all airliners have arbitrarily enhanced airfares on Srinagar sector.
“The hike in the fares won’t just affect our tourism industry, it would also hit the students of Kashmir studying in different parts of the country and patients going outside for medical care,” they said. “Thousands of students of Kashmir are studying outside. When the highway gets blocked, their families as also the students have no other alternative than to travel by air,” they said, adding that because of the hike, it “would be impossible for them to afford the air travel.”
