The government is exploring better air connectivity to tourist spots in the State.
Addressing presspersons in Bangalore on Friday, June 28, Minister for Higher Education and Tourism R.V. Deshpande said he had met Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh and requested him to provide air connectivity to tourists places in coastal parts of the State via Goa. Air connectivity to Mysore would also help, he said. Though a large number of tourists visit Goa beaches, Karnataka’s beaches attract a negligible number on account of lack of connectivity and poor infrastructure. The department has proposed roping in private investment for constructing hotels and resorts in tourist spots in the State, he said.
The Minister said he also held discussions with Union Railway Minister M. Mallikarjun Kharge on providing rail connectivity from Hampi or Bellary to other tourist spots in the State. Mr. Deshpande urged Union Minister for Tourism K Chiranjeevi to release funds for developing tourism here.
