Travel website Yatra.com on Thursday said bookings had increased “four to five times” over the past two days on account of the heavy discounts on fares being offered by various airlines between January 21 to 24, even as Jet Airways’ low-cost subsidiary Jet Konnect joined the fare war among airlines by offering a 50 per cent discount on base fares.
The bookings for Jet Konnect for the discounts on fares will need to be done on January 23 and 24 while the travel date validity is till April 15. In the past couple of days, low-cost carriers SpiceJet and IndiGo as well as national carrier Air India had started offering heavy discounts of 50 per cent on air tickets for two to three days. Yatra.com said travellers, especially from southern India, were availing of the huge discounts on fares. While airlines are hoping to boost load factors now that the lean season for travel has begun, apart from a sudden influx in revenues, travel agents say the fare war will ultimately result in the financial bleeding of all airlines.
