Months after the inter-state bus terminal at Kashmere Gate was inaugurated by the transport minister, the transport department says it will not continue with the second phase of renovations. “The Delhi government has decided to scrap the second phase of the renovations at the ISBT which included a hotel and an underground parking lot at the bus terminus,” said a senior department official.
The reason, say officials, is the upcoming Kashmere Gate Metro station which will be integrated with the existing station as well as the ISBT. The ISBT renovations were delayed by a year and had led to a 10% escalation in cost for the government, said senior department officials.
Delhi Metro’s Central Secretariat to Kashmere Gate corridor culminates at Kashmere Gate, where a station already exists. Delhi government’s rapid rail transit system (RRTS) is also expected to have a station at the Kashmere Gate ISBT.
