India’s second private butterfly park opens

MANGALORE
The Western Ghats is a unique biodiversity hotspot for plants and animal habitats, said Isaac Kehimkar, general manager (programmes), Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), Mumbai.

While speaking at the inauguration of the first private butterfly park of the state developed by Sammilan Shetty at Beluvai near here on Sunday, August 18, he said that the attempt of Sammilan in setting up the park at the foothills of the Western Ghats without any intention of making profit is remarkable. The park is located at Kanthavara forest.

“India is home to about 1500 species of butterflies,” he added.

Kehimkar also launched the official website of the park www.butterflyparkbelvai.com at the event.
