Forget rupee depreciation, Indians seem to have overtaken Brits, Germans and Russians in becoming the highest spenders abroad, particularly in Abu Dhabi.
A majority of tourists from India come for official purposes like meetings, incentives, conferencing and exhibitions (MICE), though Abu Dhabi, the largest of seven emirates, which make up the United Arab Emirates (UAE), lures families. It is also emerging as a popular wedding destination too.
Apart from hotel guest arrivals, India is becoming the largest international source market and it is expected that this trend would continue in 2014 too. “Abu Dhabi has a lot to offer for the Indian travellers. From a family oriented vacations to desiring to explore the local culture – there’s a lot to lure the Indian,” says a travel industry professional.
According to the latest figures released by Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, India has emerged as the largest overseas source market for the emirate during the first six months of this year.
