Indian Railways’ earnings up,

Indian Railways’ earnings have gone up in the April-December 2013 period due to increase in freight rate and passenger fares, but passenger bookings have dropped compared to last fiscal, causing worry to the national transporter.

Railways earned Rs 1,01,665.95 crore during April- December 2013 compared to Rs 89,701.14 cr during the same period previous year, registering an increase of 13.34 per cent, according to Railway Ministry data.

Though earnings from passenger and goods services have gone up, passenger bookings have come down in the last 11 months of the current fiscal by 0.84 per cent, a concern for the cash-strapped Railways.
