Indians were the largest source market for tourism for Sri Lanka in November 2015. Indian tourists visits were up by 48.4% from a year earlier at 29,000.
The Chinese tourists were the other large group of tourists to record a big jump, at 54% year on year to see 16,000 arrivals in November 2015. The arrivals from Western Europe rose only 11%.
Since the end of the civil war in the north and east of the country, Sri Lanka tourism department has carried out several global promotional campaigns. There has been many infrastructure development projects to facilitate tourism since 2009 when the 30-year-long conflict ended.
