Union textile minister Dr Kuvuru Sambshiva Rao assured the status of a handloom megacluster in Varanasi while interacting with members of Eastern UP Exporters Association (EUPEA) in the city on Saturday, August 3. While the formalities in this regard will be conducted in New Delhi on Monday, he asked manufacturers and exporters to give him verbal assurance they will able to carry on cluster effectively.
Meanwhile, members of EUPEA made several demands and suggestions before the union minister during their discussion. They raised the demand for a textile park in Varanasi. They said that despite the fact that Varanasi is a hub of exporters and weavers, it is still lagging behind most of the cities in this regard. Dr Rao assured the members that he will surely take some decision in this regard after checking the feasibility of establishing textile parks in Varanasi. On EUPEA members’ participation in international fairs and organising high level fashion shows, the minister announced that at least 15 exporters and weavers of Varanasi will participate in 3 international fairs. A high-level fashion show will also be organised during buyers-sellers meet which will be organised in October.
