Hampi festival from January 10


BANGALORE
A three-day festival at the world famous Hampi, capital of the Vijayanagara empire, will be held from January 10, 2014.

The annual cultural extravaganza will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, according to Minister of State for Labour P.T. Parameshwara Naik, who is also the district-in-charge Minister for Bellary district.

He told presspersons here on Friday that the government has decided to utilise Rs. 6 crore for the festival, which is an expressive forum for the maestros of culture to depict the rich historical and cultural heritage to the rest of the world. The department hopes to mobilise more funds from sponsors, he said.

Ever since the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) declared Hampi a world heritage site, all steps have been taken to safeguard the historical monuments by providing round-the-clock security, he said.
