Greece travel crisis not to impact India: travel industry

DELHI

With the Greece crisis at full boil, the tourism industry is in wait and watch more for the impact on the tourism sector. Many expect the value of the Euro to depress making more Indians want to travel to European countries as well as Greece, a popular destination for the outbound Indian.

Guldeep Singh Sahni, president, Outbound Tour Operators Association of India (OTOAI) told the Financial Express, “I foresee a temporary slump, but not a long term one.” He hoped for all countries to come along to help the country out of its present mess. His organisation signed an MoU with Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourist Agencies (HATTA) last year to sell Greece as a destination in India.

Others like Cox & Kings and Thomas Cook have not seen any cancellations so far and also expected the depressed Euro to give a fillip to travel out of India.
