Dubai has been selected to host the World Expo in 2020.
When Dubai builds, Kerala smiles. Skyscrapers come up in the fabled desert land with the sweat and toil of labourers from the State and elsewhere in India and other South Asian nations and those of South-east Asia. In return, remittances flow into these countries.
Keep smiling now, as Dubai gets ready to host the World Expo in 2020, a significant resurgence for the emirate after a debilitating recession that began in 2008. After nightmarish stories of abandoned mansions and deserted streets, the city swung back to what it knows best — construction — two years ago. The selection for expo comes as a crest of a new wave.
Non-resident Indians in the UAE believe that the expo will open a new window of opportunities to Keralites. It will elevate the position of Dubai further as an international city.
