Govt seeks heritage status for Gol Gumbaz


Karnataka is making a fresh bid to get the Unesco World Heritage Site status for the Gol Gumbaz of Bijapur. 

The monument, built in the Indo-Saracenic style in 1659, is the mausoleum of Mohammad Adil Shah of the Adil Shahi dynasty which ruled the sultanate of Bijapur from 1490 to 1686. 

Bijapur district tourism committee , which met on Wednesday, decided to send a fresh proposal to the Union government seeking for its inclusion in the list of world heritage sites from India.
