Goa yet to grant NOCs to private shacks

PANAJI

Even as the tourism season is under way and peak season is just around the corner, private shacks are still awaiting NOCs from the Goa state coastal zone management authority (GCZMA), which will discuss the issue at a board meeting it will convene on Friday.

Over 500 shacks are erected in private properties in the coastal belt in addition to 350 beach shacks during tourist season. The delays in issuance of permissions by the GCZMA this season has affected business for private operators, while a GCZMA official claimed the process can’t just be rushed through.

Srinet Kotwale, member secretary, told TOI that they have completed inspections of the areas where applicants have proposed to erect shacks, and GCZMA would take a decision in its meeting this week. He also said that private shack applicants have been explained about the practical difficulties involved in expediting the process of issuance of permissions.
