Goa Tourism to see biggest boom of arrivals

PANAJI
Goa tourism this season starting this month is going to see the biggest flow of tourists from abroad. Goa, India’s most popular beach destinations, has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. But, if numbers of tourists coming in are any indication, Goa tourism is least affected. Last month the murder of a Nigerian youth triggered unrest in the State and close on the heels came the Think Fest controversy, but Conde Nast Traveler Awards have selected Goa as the topmost leisure destination.

This year, Goa tourism sector is expected from 15 countries around 1,400 chartered flights in December’s peak holiday season. That makes 2013 one of the best years for Goa tourism and the best destination in recent times.

Even in the non-peak January-September period this year, Goa tourism saw a 10% increase in foreign and domestic than in the same period the previous year. The peak season of the October-December period, that brings Goa almost 50 per cent of its tourist inflows, in 2012 was the same as in 2011. Goa tourism authorities claim, the number would be 10 percent more this season.
