In the coming tourist season, visitors can hope to see cleaner beaches. The tourism department has floated a tender inviting bids for comprehensive management and cleanliness of about 40 beaches along the 105 km coastline of the state.
The successful bidder will have to bear responsibility for segregation, composting organic waste and depositing non-biodegradable material at a centralized place, in addition to collection of waste.
Mechanized beach cleaning will be part of this exercise but it will be taken up on a trial basis at two beaches – Colva and Calangute where waste generated is high due to high density of tourist inflow, the officer said.
