The state has not given up its proposal to get beach shack operators to install CCTV cameras in their shacks though it failed to cut much ice during the last tourism season.
Tourism minister Dilip Parulekar said the government will ensure that CCTV cameras are installed at least in some prominent tourist spots in the State.
He said his government is trying to get assistance from the central government to cover important tourist spots, including the main beaches for this purpose.
The beach shack operators had vehemently opposed the government’s plan last year. The beach shack policy 2012-13 had laid down that these traders install CCTV cameras in their temporary structures. Their opposition compelled the government to roll back the requirement under the clause.
